13-year-old raped and sent to prison for adultery

‘Our prisons were full of cases like that of a thirteen-year-old girl who was raped and became pregnant and was then sent to prison for adultery because she couldn’t produce four male witnesses to prove it wasn’t a crime.’ I am Malala

The Theory of Everything :: Barbican

'Here is an unexpectedly charming, moving and powerfully acted film about the enigma that is Stephen W Hawking, the Cambridge theoretical physicist who survived a form of motor neurone disease (MND) that was expected to kill him by his mid-20s, and became a pioneer of the study of black holes, a bestselling author and the world’s most famous wheelchair user. '
Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian

Her own family had poisoned her
There was a beautiful fifteen-year-old girl called Seema. Everyone knew she was in love with a boy and sometimes she would pass by and she would look at him from under her long dark lashes, which all the girls envied. In our society, for a girl to flirt with any man brings shame on the family, though it’s all right for the man. We were told that she had committed suicide but we later discovered her own family had poisoned her.’ I am Malala

It's a gloomy day when a daughter is born

When I was born, people in our village commiserated with  my mother and nobody congratulated my father…I was a girl in a land where rifles are fired in celebration of a son, while daughters are hidden away behind a curtain, their role in life simply to prepare food and give birth to children…It’s a gloomy day when a daughter is born.

My father says he looked into my eyes after I was born and fell in love. He told people: ‘I know there is something different about this child.’

Not my Islam!

'The book was called The Satanic Verses by Salman Rushdie and it was a parody of the life of the prophet…Muslims widely considered it blasphemous…Mullahs all over Pakistan were denouncing the book…Ayatollah Khomeini issued a fatwa calling for Rushdie’s assassination…
My father also saw the book as offensive but suggested: "First, let’s read the book and then why not respond with our own book…Is Islam such a weak religion that it cannot tolerate a book written against it?

Not my Islam!" ’
